Web Systems Engineer

the OTHER media is a successful independent web design and development agency with an enviable portfolio of clients. In response to growing levels of new work, and additional work from existing clients, we are seeking a Web Systems Engineer.

We are looking for someone who can:

1. Demonstrate an ability to carry out tasks such as DNS, Email and SSL management
2. Manage the expectations of staff and clients to complete daily tasks
3. Identify and streamline existing business processes related to IT within the organisation
4. Demonstrate real world experience in running web platforms on the environments detailed below
5. Troubleshoot a variety of technical issues; identifying issues and liaising with the correct departments and staff
6. Run internal projects such as DR testing and internal systems development
7. Produce a high level of documentation

We would expect you to:

  • Have 1-2 years of relevant experience in a digital agency or related industry
  • Love the web and understand its importance to businesses
  • Be qualified to degree level
  • Have great communication and team skills

You should have the following qualities:

  • Experience in the management of DNS, SSLs and end user workstations (PC/MAC/LINUX)
  • Experience in installing (hardware and software) and managing Linux servers running Apache, PHP, Resin, Tomcat, PostgeSql, MySQL
  • The experience required to support the network infrastructure
  • Experience in Linux distributions such as CentOs, Gentoo, Ubuntu and open source tools such as CVS/SVN
  • Experience of system scripting in Bash, Perl, Python or similar
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN, VLANS, Firewalls, VPNs, Cisco Products, Samba, LVS, NFS
  • Knowledge of Visualisation Technology such as VMware and Xen Hypervisor

You will act as part of the team and individually on internal and client facing projects. Outstanding organisation and communication skills are vital as you will be expected to liaise directly with staff and produce regular documentation.
